It is a series of staged photographs that started as a bit of research into how to bring accross the subjective length of a moment, the speed of time, in a single image. The short moments were happy ones with people (not so much featured in the final series) or, open to interpretation, when the subject is engaged in a device. Long moments were caused by absence of distraction, maybe waiting mostly. As you can see, the concept is a bit wobbly. Especially since I used a light emphasizing empty space leaving the individual in the shadows, kind of emotionally removed. I have a good feeling about what the series as a whole communicates, but I also think it is important that everybody has his or her own “feeling” while looking at the photographs, everybody has a different frame of reference. I am not going to tell my viewer what to feel, it is hard enough to evoke any feeling with an image. Do these evoke anything in you? Please share in the comment section, I am interested in your interpretation.
I like Nicolien for the added twist of reflection. Joeri (man with fallen leaves III) is a nicely clean-upped version of man with fallen leaves II and still my favourite of the series. The decor of Lucas is stunning, I wish I had the space for so many book cases. 🙂
You’ll have to talk me through each of these shots over a beer soon, I am quite curious about a lot of little details so cunningly displayed in these photographs. Good luck with the SWPA!
