Last Valentine’s De Volkskrant magazine had asked 8 Dutch photographers to portrait their favourite rose. Since then I wanted to portrait mine: the poppy (if that even is a rose, in Dutch it is called klaproos, hence my confusion). However, in februari there are not many poppies, but today I found a whole field. So I picked one and took it home to photograph. The poppy, to me, is wild and sophisticated.
