He is also known for his study of a bellpepper from his garden: Pepper by Edward Weston.
Looking at this, the following thoughts came up:
– The subject defines the photograph.
– The photographer is only a technician.
But is that true? Because the photographer selected the bellpepper and the angle of view which makes it so interesting, this has more to do with aesthetics. The shape of the bellpepper is enhanced by the lighting and sharpness (more technical).

Inspired by Edward Weston I decided to shoot some food myself. The objective was to evoke some association with human form, like aforementioned bellpepper does so potently. I fondled the subjects quite some time and positioned and lit them in different ways to get to know their shapes more intimately.

Red bellpepper – photo Joeri van Veen 2010

Garlic – photo Joeri van Veen 2010

Tomatoes – photo Joeri van Veen 2010

Asparagus – photo Joeri van Veen 2010

Dates – photo Joeri van Veen 2010

Edward Weston shot a bellpepper that looked like a person.
