For most series I work with a tripod to get the best possible sharpness (or unsharpness) and to make reproducing the same composition easier (when I want to change focus or exposure and retake, everything is still arranged the same way in space).
But many photographs that are interesting are not taken that way. They have a large dose of spontaneity or chance injected in the process through which they come into being. Even though I do not condone that way of working perse I want to try for myself. So I will be taking an old Zeiss Ikon Nettar with me a couple of times and shoot off eight (the number of frames it puts on a roll of film) double exposures quickly and rather randomly, before I take out my real camera.
It has no light meter (just like me), so I am using the sunny 16 rule.

Double exposure 1 – photo Joeri van Veen 2011

Double exposure 2 – photo Joeri van Veen 2011

Double exposure 3 – photo Joeri van Veen 2011

The Zeiss Ikon Nettar with which I shoot the double exposures.

Zeiss Ikon Nettar – photo Joeri van Veen 2011

My first foray into the art of double exposure taking.
