Collecting the prints at my favourite printshop is a present every time, just like a real present it can dissapoint but it is always exciting, and that makes me happy. I keep shooting film to introduce more randomness in my photography, this is also the reason to use expired rolls mostly, one never can tell how the colours will come out, most of the time they are fine though.

The fact that an old film-camera like the Nikon FM2N is light and compact (compared to the digital workhorse) also makes it attractive to take with you on a walk and shoot some expired photographic film. When developed I scan the film with my Minolta Dimage Scan Dual II (very old, I know). All the steps in this process slow me down, when the photograph finally appears on my monitor I value it more than a digital snapshot. Even though it is still a snapshot (these expired-film-shots are not intended to be fine art or anything).

Lush greens – photo Joeri van Veen 2010

The stick – photo Joeri van Veen 2010

Kicking a pine cone – photo Joeri van Veen 2010

The following two photographs are from a previous roll, also expired.
